Alex here is curious, he wants to know what are the most important applications to use in school. Is it blogs, wiki's, or Nings? Maybe you prefer Glogster, Kerpoof, or Edmodo? Tell me what program you can't live without.
We have used Ning the most in our class this year but I would not say that it is THE killer app. I hope that my students have learned to use a variety of tools.
For me because of the work that I do with my class its MicroSoft MovieMaker. Before you laugh we try and produce a video a day to post online and without a program that was straightforward, it wouldn't be possible. I know its not advanced or as user friendly as some but it is free and it is built into anything with Windows Operating System. So its MM for me.

Using Ning is not the end all when it comes to apps, but it has really made my life easier. Just because of the ease of access, the ability to add notes and information for the students, and also they love the social feature where they create their own page. But to build on what Mark said, I hope they use a variety of tools but I feel like helps me accomplish this goal as well.
I think that glogster is the best application for classrooms or schools because then we can make cool creations with it and you can put it on your blogs or print it out to show your friends.
Google sketchup is one of the many great applications you can use on your computer at school. It is an architectural designing program. You can also share your designs made so others can upload your model,it is not THE best app but I would reccomend it.
I haven't tried Ning because of the age restriction (14 I think). I hear that it is really good. I really like our classroom blog but the district I work for is really tightening what students have access to and I am going to have to switch blog sites if I want to keep blogging with students (sniff...I really like the ease of blogger.com). I am also partial to animoto just becuase it is a fun way to show off photos :)
