Paul Revere is not a Horse Part 2

Paul Revere was made famous for his "Midnight Ride". Read the poem then you can go to his Wikipedia page to learn more about him. Also read The Midnight Riders, April 19 1775 by Roger Saunders. After you read about him, check out this video. Then read this excerpt from:

THE TRUE STORY OF PAUL REVERE

By Charles Gettemy from Archiving Early America

"Most men like Revere--- somewhat above the average of the mass, but not possessing the usual elements of enduring fame-- pass out of life eulogized by their fellow-citizens; remembered by a circle of admiring and respecting friends until they also pass away; and are ultimately forgotten, finding no place upon the pages of written history.Â

"Paul Revere was rescued from this fate by an accident-- the witchery of a poet's Imagination. Â His famous ride on the night of the 18th of April, 1775, remained unsung, if not unhonored, for eighty-eight years, or until Longfellow in 1863 made it the text for his Landlord's Tale in the Wayside Inn.

"It is to Longfellow's simple and tuneful ballad that most persons undoubtedly owe their knowledge of the fact that a man of the name of Revere really did something on the eve of the historic skirmish at Lexington which is worth remembering."

Does our society honor Paul Revere as the great hero, or does our society honor the real Paul Revere who simply did his job? Explain your opinion.

I think Paul Revere was a real hero because he stood up for what he believed in and it must have took a lot of courage to spy on the regulars and to warn the militia.

I think our society honors Paul Revere the great hero because he is considered a hero for warning the army about the British. He is probably thought of as the one who helped the Americans win the war.

I think that our society honors Paul Revere as a great hero because if it wasn't for his warnings, we wouldn't have been ready for the surprise attack.

Our society honors Paul Revere as a hero and not a guy who did his job

Our society honors Paul Revere as a great hero because if he didn't rid through Lexington the towns people would probably be dead.

I think Revere was just doing his job because Revere was a messenger. He 's job was to give people messages.

Our society thinks that he is just a man who did his job by the sound of it even though I think otherwise.

I think our society thinks that Paul Revere is simply a man that did his job because he wasn't looking for anything, and he was already supposed to hang a lantern if anything happened.

society honors him as a hero because his job was a blacksmith so he didn't do anything "heroic" blacksmithing...
the only thing people honor him for is his Midnight Ride. Maybe people remember him as doing something good as a blacksmith but all he did was made things with metals as a blacksmith.

JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR TO YOU:
everyone in the colonies were British so if Paul Revere said "The British are coming" no one would get ready for the soldiers...

I would honor paul Revere

Wm Chamberlain said...

Ben, not all the colonists were British. Many were Dutch as well. Some were French, Spanish, Portuguese, and even free blacks from Africa.

I don't really think that Paul Revere was all that important when it came to the Revolutionary War

I would like to consider him as a...help to the War even though he didn't do very much.Sure he warned the militias that the British were coming and all that but we really gotta honor the people that fought in the war like...

George Washington and,other people i can't remember.
