Getting a Gmail Account

You need to get a gmail account. This will allow you to join the 7th grade Ning as well as use the many Google tools I plan to introduce you to.

Here is a link to a video that shows you how to create a Gmail account. Make sure your gmail user name is appropriate for school!

One bit of advice. Each semester I have about 125 or so students who must sign up for a Google account in order to take my class. I have to get them to sign up in their dorm, at home, or at work. If I try to do it in my lab at the University of South Alabama, it works for the first class. After that Google locks applications out from the same IP address since they suspect spam.

What we should do, I think, is to become a Google school and it would be much easier. I am trying to get that to happen this semester.

You do need a Google account. That includes Blogger and YouTube as well since they are both owned by Google.

I have Google for school, but I want my students to have accounts they can continue to use. Doubt they want me to have access to their accounts when they are in high school or college.

If I were still teaching 5th grade I would continue to use it.

I think it'll be cool when the 7th graders are on gmail too!
